This week’s WCW is a brain child of Ms. Lerato Radebe who recruited other members to form a cooperative from the heart of Kagiso in the West Rand. Sometimes, the most successful business ideas are the simplest. Or rather, they are the ones that appeal to the most basic needs, like bread. Goapele Bakery & Confectionery, services a variety of clients to which they provide handmade baked products to suit each client’s specific needs. Their baked items are inclusive of breads, pastries, sweets, confectionary, muffins, cakes and biscotti’s. The entities superb team of highly trained employees and recognizable fleet of
vehicles ensure that all goods are produced and distributed fresh to their customers.

GEP assisted the Co-Op with the Co-operative Assistance Programme through procurement of equipment worth R30 000.00. The equipment procured included 2 deck ovens, bread pans and a dough mixer. In addition the entity was further assisted with the design and development of marketing promotional materials to enable them to expand their marketing as well as attract new markets around Gauteng. The marketing material included
business cards, signage, T-shirts and stickers. They also received a Safety File and Quality Management System through GEP’s intervention.

In 2016/17 the company was named the winner of the Food and Beverages category at the second Township entrepreneurship Awards, an accolade that carried with it R200 000.00 in prize money. As a result of GEP’s interventions, the Co-operative’s sales have increased by more than 100% from September 2017 to date,
with an annual turnover that escalated from R82 000.00 to R360 000.00 per annum thus, creating 2 full time employment.
